5 Secrets to Health in Your 30's

Updated: Jan 5, 2021

So you’ve crossed that invisible line and made it into your 30’s. Congrats!

So many wonderful things come with aging - we are wiser, we are smarter - in my opinion we are sexier! But it’s not all sunshine and roses.

Every decade, our basal metabolic rate decreases by a percent or two. We find soreness where there wasn’t before. We find fatigue where there wasn’t before. Our work lives become more demanding as we take on the burden of seriously preparing for the future.

Your body’s transition into your 30s happens slowly but it does happen. Our bodies are not the same - so we can’t treat them the same and expect to feel great all of the time.

So how can we maintain optimal health into our 30s?!

These are my top 5 tips on creating health and wellness for longevity.

1. Sleep

I don't know if you've noticed, but as we move into our 30s the need for sleep becomes extremely real. Not only in hours, but in the quality of our sleep.

Top Tip: Pay attention to what you are doing right before bed.

Stimulating activities before bed will naturally lead to less restful sleep. Create a bedtime routine that minimizes stimulation and maximizes relaxation.

2. Self Check

How often are you checking in with your self? And WTF does that mean??

Simply noticing where your breath is coming through out the day will dramatically improve your stress response to life. The more stress hormones you have coursing through your body, the more quickly we age

Top Tip: Pay attention to your breath. Check in with your self a few times a day

3. Gua sha!!!

Taking 5 - 10 minutes each and every day to improve your circulation is the KEY to aging gracefully. Gua sha can relieve tension in the muscles of the face, boost blood circulation, and encourage lymphatic drainage to release bloating.

This one detoxifying exercise creates a natural face lift - and while you can go to a professional for a formal treatment, it's just as easy to do for yourself at home.

Top Tip: Gua Sha once a day for glowing skin and an all natural facelift

5. Portion Control

As we age, our metabolism slows down, and for most people the rate of activity is reduced in their 30s. This leads to inevitable weight gain which has a myriad of health effects that become harder and harder to counter act as we age.

While eating healthy whole foods is important, the biggest key to improving our digestion is actually portion control. Most of us eat without awareness, which leads to over eating and poor digestion.

The speed which you eat will wildly affect your ability to control your portions. Try setting aside time and space for each and every meal. Step away from work, from your phone, from all of your pressing distractions, and make time just to experience your food.

Top Tip: Create time and space to eat and digest every meal

5. Build exercise into your life

The key is consistency. Don't get stuck on the idea that you have to take an hour out of your day, every single day, if you don't feel like you have the time.

Ask yourself what you can do today. What is realistic and manageable for your to maintain - not for one day or three days, but for your life.

Try setting an exercise goal for the week. For example, if you want to try to exercise for 90 minutes, you can break it into different segments. Try scheduling 3 sessions of 30mins, or 6 sessions of 15 minutes... etc.

Top Tip: You don't have to do it perfectly - just do it consistently
